A 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery costs about $180–$300 from budget online brands, about $350–$450 from mid-range brands, and about $800–$950 from premium brands such as Battle Born in 2026. That works out to roughly $140–$740 per kWh of storage.
Prices for the same “12V 100Ah” label vary five-fold. Some of that gap buys real features, like a stronger battery management system (BMS), cold-weather protection and a longer warranty. Some of it is brand name. This guide is a research-based look at published specs, warranties and street prices. We have not tested these batteries hands-on.
Quick answer
- Budget brands: about $180–$300 at major online retailers.
- Mid-range (e.g., Renogy Smart): about $350–$450.
- Premium (e.g., Battle Born): about $800–$950, with a 10-year warranty.
- Energy stored: 12.8 V × 100 Ah = 1.28 kWh per battery.
- Check before buying: BMS amp rating, low-temperature charge protection, cycle rating, warranty length and certifications.
How much does a 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery cost?
Here are typical 2026 street prices by tier. Prices change often, and sales can drop them 10%–20%.
| Tier | Typical price | Price per kWh (1.28 kWh) | Typical warranty | What you usually get |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget online brands | about $180–$300 | about $140–$235 | often 3–5 years | Basic 100A BMS, rated 4,000+ cycles, email support |
| Mid-range (e.g., Renogy Smart) | about $350–$450 | about $275–$350 | about 5 years | Bluetooth monitoring, rated 4,000+ cycles at 80% depth of discharge |
| Premium (e.g., Battle Born BB10012) | about $800–$950 | about $625–$740 | 10 years | US phone support, rated 3,000–5,000 cycles, 100A continuous / 200A surge |
Price per kWh, step by step: a 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery is really 12.8 V nominal. 12.8 V × 100 Ah = 1,280 Wh, or 1.28 kWh. Then $250 ÷ 1.28 kWh = about $195 per kWh. A $900 premium battery is $900 ÷ 1.28 = about $703 per kWh.
What is the cost per cycle of a LiFePO4 battery?
Upfront price is only half the story. A better way to compare is cost per kWh delivered over the battery’s life:
- Budget: 1.28 kWh × 4,000 cycles = 5,120 kWh lifetime. $250 ÷ 5,120 = about $0.05 per kWh.
- Premium: 1.28 kWh × 3,500 cycles = 4,480 kWh lifetime. $900 ÷ 4,480 = about $0.20 per kWh.
Both beat lead acid by a wide margin. These figures assume the battery actually reaches its rated cycles, which depends on cell quality, temperature and how you charge it. A longer warranty is the main protection if it doesn’t. Our LiFePO4 vs lead acid comparison runs the same math for AGM and flooded batteries.
Why are some LiFePO4 batteries so much more expensive?
- BMS rating. A 100A BMS limits you to about 1,280 W (12.8 V × 100 A). Batteries with 150A–200A BMS boards cost more but run bigger inverters.
- Cold-weather protection. LiFePO4 should not be charged below 32°F. Low-temperature cutoff is now common; built-in self-heating usually costs extra.
- Warranty and support. A 10-year warranty with US-based support costs more than a 3-year warranty handled by email.
- Cell sourcing and testing. Premium brands say they use matched, graded cells and test each pack. Budget brands vary, and claims are hard to check.
- Extras. Bluetooth monitoring, metal cases, and “mini” sizes that fit group 24 boxes all add cost.
What specs should you check before buying?
| Spec | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 100 Ah at 12.8 V = 1.28 kWh. Be wary of listings that claim more for the same size and price. |
| Continuous discharge | 100A minimum; 150A–200A if you run an inverter above 1,200 W. |
| Cycle rating | 4,000+ cycles, and check the depth of discharge it was rated at (80% vs 100%). |
| Low-temp charging | Cutoff near 32°F at minimum; self-heating for unheated sheds, RVs or boats in winter. |
| Certifications | UN38.3 for shipping; UL 1973 or similar for stationary use. |
| Series/parallel limits | Check how many units can be linked for 24V or 48V systems. |
| Weight and size | About 22–31 lb; check it fits your battery box (group 24, 27 or 31). |
| Warranty | Length, who handles claims, and whether it covers off-grid or marine use. |
How long will a 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery run things?
Plan on about 1.2 kWh usable after inverter losses. Divide by the load in watts:
- LED lights, 50 W: 1,200 Wh ÷ 50 W = 24 hours.
- 12V fridge averaging 40 W: 1,200 ÷ 40 = 30 hours.
- Laptop and router, 100 W: 1,200 ÷ 100 = 12 hours.

Where should you buy a 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery?
- Brand websites: often the best sales and the cleanest warranty claims.
- Large online marketplaces: lowest prices, but buy from the brand’s official store to avoid copies.
- RV, marine and solar dealers: higher prices, but advice and local support.
- Home improvement stores: a limited range, easy returns.

Is it safe to install a LiFePO4 battery yourself?
A single 12V battery in an RV, boat or shed is a common DIY job. Use the right wire gauge, a fuse or breaker close to the positive terminal, and a charger with a LiFePO4 profile. Anything tied into your home’s 120/240V wiring or the grid should be done by a licensed electrician, with permits and inspection under the National Electrical Code and local rules.
Frequently asked questions
Are cheap LiFePO4 batteries any good?
Many budget batteries perform well for light use, based on published reviews. The risk is shorter warranties and less consistent quality control. For heavy daily cycling or a hard-to-reach install, a longer warranty is worth paying for.
How many kWh is a 12V 100Ah lithium battery?
About 1.28 kWh (12.8 V × 100 Ah). Nearly all of it is usable, unlike lead acid, which you should only drain about halfway.
Can I use my lead-acid charger?
Only if it has a lithium or LiFePO4 setting. Lead-acid equalize or desulfation modes can harm a LiFePO4 battery.
How long does a LiFePO4 battery last?
Most are rated 3,000–6,000 cycles. Cycled once a day, that is roughly 8–16 years, though heat and deep cycling can shorten it.
