A solar-powered CCTV camera in Nigeria costs about ₦50,000 to ₦170,000 in October 2026. Basic 4G or Wi-Fi bullet and dual-lens models sell for ₦50,000–₦95,000, while pan-tilt (PTZ) and branded kits like the Ezviz EB3 4G run ₦80,000–₦170,000.
Quick answer
- Entry 4G or Wi-Fi camera: ₦50,000–₦95,000 on Jiji and Slot.
- PTZ, triple-lens or camera + floodlight: ₦70,000–₦170,000.
- 4G vs Wi-Fi: 4G takes a SIM and works anywhere with network; Wi-Fi needs your router within range.
- Power: a small panel charges a built-in lithium battery, so the camera keeps recording when NEPA takes light.
- Best for: gates, fences, farms, sites and shops where running cable is hard.
A wired CCTV system goes blind the moment the inverter battery runs flat. A solar camera carries its own panel and battery, so it keeps watching your gate through a Band D or Band E night. Below we compare 4G and Wi-Fi models, explain what the battery and panel numbers mean, and give the prices we found in October 2026. If you want one supplied and set up, see our solar CCTV camera in the shop.
How much is a solar CCTV camera in Nigeria by type?
We checked live listings on Jiji (Lagos and Abuja), Slot and individual sellers in Ikeja Computer Village and Ojo (Alaba). Most are unbranded cameras that run on the V380 Pro or Ubox apps. Branded kits from Ezviz cost more but come with a clearer warranty.
| Type | Typical price | Examples seen |
|---|---|---|
| Basic 4G bullet / single lens | ₦50,000 – ₦65,000 | 4G solar camera with memory card ₦50,000 (Jiji); Eden Solar 4G outdoor camera ₦65,000 (Slot) |
| Dual-lens 4G or Wi-Fi | ₦55,000 – ₦95,000 | Dual-lens solar camera ₦55,000; V380 dual lens 4G ₦85,000; Ubox 4G dual lens 8MP ₦90,000 |
| Triple-lens / four-lens | ₦70,000 – ₦105,000 | Wi-Fi triple lens ₦70,000; V380 four-lens ₦75,000; premium triple lens ₦105,000 |
| PTZ (pan-tilt, 360°) | ₦80,000 – ₦170,000 | 4G smart PTZ ₦80,000; 4G/Wi-Fi dual-lens PTZ ₦95,000; PT solar camera ₦170,000 |
| Camera + light combos | ₦90,000 – ₦150,000 | AI solar camera + light ₦90,000–₦110,000; street light with camera ₦150,000 |
| Branded kit | about ₦140,000 – ₦160,000 | Ezviz EB3 4G battery camera + solar panel ₦140,000; Sky Vision ₦160,000 |
Almost all of these cameras are imported, so prices move with the naira. A camera that cost ₦60,000 last year may be ₦75,000 today. Treat the table as a guide and ask the seller for today’s price.
4G (SIM) or Wi-Fi solar camera: which should you buy?
This is the first choice to make, because it decides where the camera can go.
| Feature | 4G (SIM) camera | Wi-Fi camera |
|---|---|---|
| Where it works | Anywhere with MTN, Airtel, Glo or 9mobile signal | Within range of your router (often 20–50 m outdoors) |
| Running cost | Monthly data bundle | Uses your home internet |
| Price | Usually a little higher | Usually a little lower |
| Weak point | Poor network in some estates and rural areas | Goes offline when the router has no power |
| Best for | Farms, sites, gates far from the house, warehouses | Homes and shops with steady internet |
A point many buyers miss: a Wi-Fi solar camera stays powered during a blackout, but your router may not. If the router runs off NEPA or a small UPS, the camera will keep recording to its memory card but you will not be able to view it live. A 4G camera avoids that problem completely. If your router is on an inverter, Wi-Fi is fine.
Before buying a 4G model, put your SIM in a phone, stand where the camera will go and check you get at least two or three bars of 4G. Network strength varies a lot between, say, Lekki Phase 1 and a farm outside Abeokuta.
What battery and solar panel size does a solar CCTV camera need?
Solar cameras are designed to sip power. They sleep most of the time and wake up when the motion sensor (PIR) or AI person detection triggers. That is why a small panel and a phone-sized battery can keep them running.
- Battery: branded models list capacity clearly. The Ezviz EB3 4G kit sold in Lagos, for example, uses a 5,200mAh battery. Many unbranded cameras do not state capacity at all, so ask before you pay.
- Panel: most come with a small panel either built into the camera body or on a separate cable. A separate panel is better, because you can point it at the sun while the camera points at your gate.
- Recording mode: motion-triggered recording uses far less battery than 24-hour recording. “AOV” (always-on video) models record continuously at a low frame rate and need more sun.
Rough maths for a 5,200mAh, 3.7V battery: 5.2Ah × 3.7V = about 19Wh of stored energy. If the camera averages 0.5W across the day in motion-trigger mode, that is 19Wh ÷ 0.5W = about 38 hours with no sun at all. In 24-hour live mode at 2–3W, the same battery lasts well under a day. So keep recording on motion mode during the rainy season, when Lagos and Port Harcourt can go several days with heavy cloud.
Do solar CCTV cameras have night vision?
Yes. Nearly all models sold in Nigeria have two night modes:
- Infrared (black-and-white): invisible IR LEDs light up the scene. It uses little power and does not draw attention.
- Colour night vision: a white spotlight switches on when motion is detected, giving colour footage and scaring off intruders. It drains the battery faster, so use it at the gate rather than on every camera.
Some combos, like the “AI solar camera + lighting” units on Jiji, add a proper floodlight. If you mainly want light around the compound, a separate solar street light is brighter and cheaper per lumen.
Which apps do solar cameras use in Nigeria?
The app matters more than people think, because you will use it every day.
- V380 Pro: the most common app on unbranded cameras in Computer Village and Alaba. Free live view and playback from the memory card; cloud storage is a paid add-on.
- Ubox: used by many 4G PTZ cameras. Similar features to V380.
- Ezviz app: for Ezviz-branded cameras. More polished, with better firmware updates.
Ask the seller to set the camera up on your phone before you leave the shop. Check that live view loads, that motion alerts arrive, and that you can play back recorded clips from the SD card. Change the default password the same day.
Is a solar CCTV camera cheaper than wired CCTV on an inverter?
For one to four cameras, usually yes. A wired system needs a DVR or NVR, a hard drive, cabling, trunking and a power supply, and the DVR has to stay on your inverter around the clock. That eats into your battery every night. A solar camera only needs a pole or wall bracket and, for 4G models, a data plan.
Worked example for a bungalow in Ikorodu: two dual-lens 4G cameras at about ₦85,000 each = ₦170,000, plus two memory cards and a technician to mount them. A wired system with a DVR, two cameras and 40 m of cable will often cost more once labour is included, and it still stops when the inverter battery is flat. For six cameras or more around a big compound, wired or PoE CCTV on a proper solar system starts to make more sense, because one recorder handles everything.
How do you avoid fake or poor solar cameras?
- Be wary of “8MP” and “4K” claims on ₦50,000 cameras. Many dual-lens units add the two lens figures together. Ask for sample night footage.
- Ask for the battery capacity in mAh. If the seller cannot tell you, assume it is small.
- Check the IP rating. IP65 or IP66 handles Nigerian rain and Harmattan dust.
- Get a written warranty and buy from a shop with a physical address, not only a WhatsApp number.
- Mount it high (about 3 m) and out of easy reach, so it cannot simply be pulled down.
For bigger security set-ups that also need lights, fans and a fridge to run through outages, start with our solar load calculator, then compare solar generator prices for a plug-and-play option.

Frequently asked questions
Does a 4G solar camera need data every month?
Yes. It uses data whenever it uploads alerts or you watch live. Motion-only recording to the SD card uses little; hours of live viewing use a lot. Start with a small bundle and watch your usage for the first month.
Will a solar CCTV camera work during the rainy season?
Yes, if it is on motion-trigger mode and the panel faces open sky. A good battery covers a day or two of heavy cloud. Continuous recording may cut out during long rainy spells.
Can I record without internet?
Yes. Most models record to a microSD card (usually up to 128GB) with no internet. You just cannot view live or get alerts until the connection comes back.
How many solar cameras do I need for a duplex?
Most duplexes need three or four: one on the gate, one covering the parking area and one or two for the back and sides. A PTZ camera can cover a wide yard alone.
