A water heater in Nigeria costs about ₦72,000 to ₦120,000 for a 10-litre electric model, ₦94,000 to ₦185,000 for 30 litres and ₦220,000 to ₦750,000 for 100 litres (prices seen on Jumia, Jiji and Konga in October 2026). Instant tap and shower heaters start around ₦40,000, while a 200-litre solar water heater runs from about ₦750,000 to over ₦2 million.
Quick answer
- 10L: ₦72,000–₦120,000 (Polystar, Maxi, Sweethome, Ariston Andris RS).
- Ariston: about ₦119,000 for a 10L Andris RS up to ₦450,000–₦750,000 for 100L.
- Sweethome: about ₦85,000–₦108,000 (10L) and ₦140,000–₦165,000 (30L).
- Power: most storage heaters draw 1,500–2,000W; instant heaters 3,000–5,500W.
- Inverter: a 1.5kVA inverter can’t run one; plan on 3.5kVA–5kVA with a strong battery, or use a solar water heater.
Prices move with the naira exchange rate, because nearly every heater sold here is imported. Treat the figures below as a guide and confirm on the day you buy.
How much is a water heater in Nigeria by size?
Size is the biggest driver of price. A 10L or 15L heater serves one bathroom for short showers. A 30L suits a couple. A 50L to 100L tank suits a family sharing one heater, or a hotel room.
| Size | Price range (₦) | Brands seen | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10L | 72,000 – 120,000 | Polystar, Maxi, Sweethome, Ariston Andris RS, Ariston Blu | 1 person, quick showers |
| 15L | 72,000 – 145,000 | Polystar, Maxi, Sweethome, Ariston Andris RS / Blu R | 1–2 people |
| 30L | 94,000 – 185,000 | MeWe, Maxi, Sweethome, Ariston Andris RS | 2–3 people |
| 50L | 193,000 – 320,000 | Golden Diamond, Sweethome, Ariston Pro1 | 3–4 people |
| 80L | 385,000 – 620,000 | Ariston Andris RS, Pro1, Lydos Eco | 4–5 people |
| 100L | 220,000 – 750,000 | Harmony, PORT-AGO, Golden Diamond, Ariston Pro1 | Large family, guest house |
The 100L row shows the brand gap clearly. A budget 100L tank was listed from about ₦220,000 to ₦263,000, while an Ariston Pro1 100L was listed at ₦450,000 and other Ariston 100L units at up to ₦750,000. You pay for the enamel lining, thermostat quality and spare-parts support.
What is the 10 litres water heater price in Nigeria?
A 10-litre heater is the most popular size for a single bathroom. In October 2026, 10L prices sat between about ₦72,000 and ₦120,000.
| 10L model | Price seen (₦) | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Polystar 10L (PV-JY10LWH) | 72,000 – 75,000 | Jiji, Zit |
| Maxi 10L (WH 10-20VE, 2,000W) | 75,000 – 77,000 | Zit, Jumia |
| Sweethome 10L (2,000W) | 85,000 – 108,000 | Jumia |
| Ariston Blu 10L | about 105,000 | Jiji |
| Ariston Andris RS 10L | about 119,000 | Jumia |
Is 10L enough? A 10L tank heated to about 60°C mixes with cold water to give roughly 15–18 litres of warm water. That covers one short shower. If two people bathe back to back, the second person waits 15–20 minutes for it to reheat. For a couple, step up to 15L or 30L.
What is the Ariston water heater price in Nigeria?
Ariston is an Italian brand and the best-known premium water heater in Nigeria. Plumbers like it because spare parts (thermostats, elements, magnesium anodes) are easy to find in Lagos and Abuja. These are the Ariston ranges we found on sale here:
- Andris RS: compact wall-mounted tanks (10L, 15L, 30L), plus larger units sold under the same name. The common bathroom choice.
- Blu / Blu R: budget Ariston line in 10L and 15L.
- Pro1 (Pro1 Eco): round vertical or horizontal cylinders from 50L to 100L for whole-flat use.
- Lydos Eco: larger tanks with better insulation.
- Pronto Neo and Aures: instant (tankless) heaters, 3kW to 4.5kW and up.
| Ariston model | Type | Price seen (₦) |
|---|---|---|
| Andris RS 10L | Storage | about 119,000 |
| Blu R 15L | Storage | about 121,000 |
| Andris RS 15L | Storage | 125,000 – 145,000 |
| Andris RS 30L | Storage | 165,000 – 185,000 |
| Pro1 50L | Storage (vertical) | about 300,000 |
| Ariston 50L (horizontal) | Storage | 310,000 – 320,000 |
| Ariston 80L (vertical / Andris RS 80L) | Storage | 385,000 – 550,000 |
| Lydos Eco 80L | Storage | about 620,000 |
| Pro1 100L | Storage (vertical) | about 450,000 |
| Pronto Neo 3kW / 4.5kW | Instant | 72,000 – 75,000 |
| Aures Slim | Instant | about 110,000 |
What about the Ariston Velis? The Velis is Ariston’s slim, flat, digital-display range. It is widely sold in Europe, but we could not find a current Nigerian listing with a price in October 2026. A few importers bring it in on order. If you see one, expect it to cost more than a Pro1 of the same size.
Watch out for fakes. Several Jiji listings say “Original” or “Made in Italy” at prices well below the Jumia official store. Check the serial label, ask for the warranty card and buy from an authorised dealer if you can.
What is the Sweethome water heater price in Nigeria?
Sweethome is a mid-priced brand found in most Lagos appliance shops. Its 10L and 15L units are rated at about 2,000W, so they heat quickly but also draw a lot of power.
| Sweethome model | Price seen (₦) | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Sweethome 10L (2,000W) | 85,000 – 108,000 | Jumia |
| Sweethome 15L (2kW) | 73,000 – 119,000 | Jiji, Jumia, Konga (₦112,900) |
| Sweethome 30L | 140,000 – 165,000 | Jumia |
| Sweethome 50L | 193,500 – 200,000 | Jumia |
| Sweethome 80L | Listed; price not confirmed | Jiji |
| Sweethome 300L (commercial) | about 1,700,000 | Jiji |
Sweethome vs Ariston? At 10L to 15L, a Sweethome costs about ₦15,000 to ₦30,000 less. Ariston has the better spare-parts network. Sweethome is a fair pick for a rented flat where you may not keep the heater for many years.
Instant vs storage water heater: which should you buy?
| Instant (tankless) | Storage (tank) | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | ₦40,000 – ₦110,000 | ₦72,000 – ₦750,000 |
| Power draw | 3,000 – 5,500W while running | 1,500 – 2,000W while heating |
| Hot water | Instant, but low flow | Wait 15–60 minutes, then strong flow |
| Works when NEPA goes off? | No, stops immediately | Yes, tank stays warm for hours |
| On an inverter | Very hard | Possible with a big system |
With Nigerian power, storage usually wins. Heat the tank while NEPA is on, and you still have warm water after the light goes. An instant heater only works while power is flowing, and its high wattage trips small inverters and generators.
Electric vs solar water heater: which is cheaper?
A solar water heater is not an electric heater on solar panels. It is a rooftop tank with glass vacuum tubes that heat water straight from sunlight. It uses no electricity on sunny days.
- 150–200L unbranded evacuated-tube units: about ₦750,000 – ₦780,000 on Jiji (Lagos).
- Branded 200L (e.g. Calpak): about ₦2 million.
- Ariston 200L hybrid solar: about ₦2.7 – ₦2.8 million.
The upfront cost is high, but running cost is close to zero. It makes the most sense for a large family, a hotel or a guest house in the north, where sunshine is strong. Most units include a backup electric element for cloudy days in the rainy season. You also need a strong roof and a working water pump to feed the tank.
How much power does a water heater use, and what does it cost on NEPA?
Here is the maths for a 15L heater rated at 2,000W, heating water from 25°C to 55°C:
- Energy per heat-up: 15L × 4.19 kJ × 30°C = 1,886 kJ ≈ 0.52 kWh.
- Two heat-ups a day plus heat lost from the tank ≈ 1.2 kWh per day.
- Band A (about ₦209–₦225/kWh): 1.2 × ₦225 = ₦270 a day, or about ₦8,100 a month.
- Band B (about ₦63/kWh): 1.2 × ₦63 = ₦76 a day, or about ₦2,300 a month.
A 50L tank used by a family can use 3 to 4 kWh a day, which is about ₦20,000 to ₦27,000 a month on Band A. Turning the thermostat down to 50°C and switching the heater off overnight cuts this noticeably.
On a petrol generator the cost is far higher. A 2kW load pushes a small “I better pass my neighbour” generator to its limit, and you burn fuel just to heat water. See our generator vs inverter vs solar comparison for the full running-cost picture.
Can a water heater run on an inverter or solar?
Yes, but not on a small one. The problem is watts. A 1.5kVA inverter delivers about 1,200W. A 2,000W heater overloads it the moment the element switches on, and the inverter trips. Instant heaters at 3,000–5,500W are even worse.
| Inverter size | Usable output (approx.) | Can it run a 1,500–2,000W heater? |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5kVA | 1,200W | No |
| 2.5kVA | 2,000W | Only a 1,500W heater, with nothing else on |
| 3.5kVA | 2,800W | Yes, with light loads alongside |
| 5kVA | 4,000W | Yes, with fridge, TV and fans |
Watts are only half the story. The battery must also hold enough energy. One 15L heat-up uses about 0.52 kWh. Two 12V 200Ah lead-acid batteries hold about 2.4 kWh of safely usable energy, so one heater cycle eats over a fifth of it. A 50L tank could empty the bank before midnight.
Our advice: if you want hot water on backup power, use at least a 5kVA inverter with a 5kWh or larger lithium battery and 2kW or more of solar panels. Run the heater only around midday, when the panels cover most of the load, or put it on a timer. A 3.5kVA inverter can manage a 1,500W unit if you keep other loads light. To size your whole house properly, add the heater to our solar load calculator.
How should a water heater be installed?
- Use a dedicated socket: a 2kW heater draws about 8.7A at 230V. Give it its own heavy-duty 15A socket or fused switch, not an extension box.
- Earth it properly: water and electricity together need a working earth and, ideally, an RCD in the distribution board.
- Fit the safety valve: the pressure relief valve that comes in the box must be installed on the cold inlet. Don’t let a plumber skip it.
- Mount on a solid wall: a full 50L tank weighs over 70kg. Use proper wall plugs and bolts.
- Protect it from voltage swings: a surge protector or stabiliser helps the element and thermostat survive NEPA surges.
- Change the anode: borehole water in many areas is hard or iron-rich. Replace the magnesium anode every 1–2 years to stop the tank rusting.
Installation by a plumber and electrician typically adds a few thousand to ₦20,000 or more, depending on piping. Get the price agreed before work starts.
Frequently asked questions
Which water heater brand is best in Nigeria?
Ariston has the best spare-parts support and resale value. Polystar and Maxi are the cheapest at 10L–15L. Sweethome sits in between.
How long does a 10L water heater take to heat?
About 10 to 20 minutes for a 2,000W unit, depending on how cold the incoming water is and the thermostat setting.
Can a 1.5kVA inverter power a water heater?
No. A 1.5kVA inverter gives about 1,200W, and most heaters need 1,500W to 2,000W. You need at least 3.5kVA, and 5kVA is safer.
Should I leave my water heater on all day?
No. Switch it on 20–30 minutes before you bathe and off afterwards. Leaving it on wastes power keeping the tank hot and wears the thermostat faster.
Is a solar water heater worth it in Nigeria?
For large households, hotels and guest houses, yes. It costs about ₦750,000 or more but uses almost no power. For one person, a 10L electric heater heated during NEPA hours is far cheaper.
